diy marble coasters

January 10, 2016

hello!

i’ve mention before, but marble is SUPER trendy at the moment and i am loving it!

i’ve been in my apartment for about 4 months now, but putting everything together has taken some time. i’m still always on the look for cheap diy’s. while browsing on pinterest, i came across these super cute marble diy coasters from a girl named Amy’s blog. you can follow her on instagram at @homeyohmy. you can also follow me on instagram @courtneyraf3 🙂

now, essentially, you could do these with any shape or color and even size. i really loved the black and white, so i stuck with those basic colors.

all you need is:

  • clay (oven safe and colors of your choice)
  • x-acto knife
  • rolling pin

i bought my clay from michael’s and it was about 10$ for a pound.

the first thing i did was roll out the base color so it looked like a hot dog.

secondly, i placed dots of the white in random places around the entire piece of clay.

the third step is twisting the clay so that the white dots spread out and give that marbled look. this part was kind of tricky and really took some time to get used to.

fourth, i rolled the clay into a ball and then flattened it out so i could create my shape.

i decided to make two round ones and two hexagon ones for variety. you can make these any shape or size you would like.

after creating my shapes, i popped these babies into the oven for about 20 minutes at 275 degrees fahrenheit.

once they’ve cooled, you can add some adhesive felt to the bottom, so that they slide around easily on the surface you place them.

i thought these were super easy and cute! i’m not going to lie, i don’t usually use a coster for my glasses, but it was a fun way to spend my sunday afternoon 🙂

leave any diy suggestions you have below!

xo,
